‘A Guide to the Sport of Driven Shooting in New Zealand’ booklet provides a source of information and advice for all participants in the sport of driven shooting.
As well as safety, the booklet covers topics such as; various quarry found in NZ, what to expect on a driven shoot day, the Code of Good Shooting Practice, legal requirements and suggested further reading.

‘A Guide to Operating an Upland Game Preserve in New Zealand’ has been written as a resource for shooting enthusiasts who may wish to start and operate an Upland Game Preserve in New Zealand.Topics covered in this booklet include; suitable land, predator control, the role of a gamekeeper, feed management plus much more.

NZGCA knowledge test

Based on information found in the booklet, A Guide to the Sport of Driven Shooting in New Zealand, we have developed an online multiple-choice test with the aim of benchmarking best practice in New Zealand game shooting. Anyone involved in game shooting in New Zealand is welcomed and encouraged to take this test.

The test is based on the following four core foundations; shooting behaviour and etiquette, safe shooting, bird welfare and respect for the environment.

There are 28 questions in the test and to pass, you need to answer at least 26 questions (92%) of them correctly. A certificate is emailed to you on successful completion of the test. We encourage game preserves to check their guns and other personnel have a current certificate before the start of the shoot season.

If you do not pass the test the first time, we advise re-reading the booklet and then re-sitting the test. There is no limit on how many attempts you may need to pass the test.

The test is free of charge and takes less than 10 minutes to complete.

GUNDoGS

To experience well-trained working dogs in the field, both in the beating line and picking up, is very special and one aspect that draws people to our sport. Dog owners often travel long distances to be part of a shooting preserve’s team, relishing the opportunity to work in the field with the high numbers of quarry.
Most shoots welcome gun dog owners of all ages to participate as part of the team on driven days.
